Al O’Connell
Al has twenty-eight years of active service with the City of Raleigh Police Department. He served in a variety of capacities during his career. These included two years of undercover work assisting the FBI. Al also supervised the sex crime unit and the financial crimes unit. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant in the field operations division. He is a graduate of NC Wesleyan College with a degree in criminal justice.
After his law enforcement career, Al worked for a local credit union in the physical security department as an analyst. He has also worked for a major manufacturer of silicon carbide chips in their corporate security department as the site security supervisor. His most recent post-retirement position was with a company that provides contract security officers serving as the general manager for NC.
During free time, Al enjoys volunteering with his church. He has served on the church council for many years, most recently as the council chairperson. In addition to working at the church, Al is a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. He serves on the district advancement board and reviews scouts that have applied for their eagle award.
Al joined Wesley in January of 2025 and serves as a part-time inspector.
